IRA Gifts (Qualified Charitable Distributions)
To make an IRA gift:
Donors must be 70.5 years of age or older to begin making Qualified Charitable Distributions (QCDs).
Gifts must be made directly from the IRA to an eligible charitable organization. Contact your IRA trustee to initiate a Qualified Charitable Distribution.
Gifts to all charities combined cannot exceed a total of $100,000 per taxpayer for the year.
The benefits of making an IRA gift include:
Fulfilling your Required Minimum Distribution (RMD) obligation.
Reducing taxable income, as gifts are excluded from federal taxable income.
Supporting your community and programs that matter to you.
Stock Gifts
A gift of stock (or other appreciated property) entitles you to a tax deduction for the market value of the donated stock (not just your cost basis). If the stock you wish to donate has been held for more than one year, you can avoid capital gains tax on any appreciation of the stock by donating the stock prior to sale. The McGaw YMCA benefits by selling the stock without paying taxes on the gain, and you benefit from making a contribution that would be larger than what you might have been able to donate in cash.
To make a gift of stock:
- Account Number: 4241– 1443
- Account Title: McGaw YMCA
- Contact: Lance Park – (224) 456-5049
- Receiving DTC Brokerage: Charles Schwab & Co
- DTC Clearing Number: 0164
When you initiate the gift transfer, please email the Development Department or call 847-475-7400 ext. 241 with your information – name, stock, and number of shares. This information ensures we can connect the donor to the gift and apply to gift to the desired program area(s).
