Summer Day Camp Coordinator

The Day Camp Coordinator is responsible for supporting the Day Camp Site Director in coordinating and overseeing the day-to-day program at the Summer Day Camp site and off-site activities (swimming, field trips, beach trips, etc.). This position is responsible for providing leadership and supervision to campers and coaching and supporting program staff for desired program goals and outcomes to be met. The Coordinator creates positive, nurturing relationships with children while building cooperative relationships with parents/ caregivers focused on YMCA core values: honesty, respect, responsibility, and caring.

Salary Range: $19.25 – $22.00 per hour

Department: Summer Day Camp

Employment Type: Temporary Hourly Seasonal – Non-Exempt

Days/Hours: Monday – Friday, 35-40 hours weekly

Experience/Education/Certification Requirements:

  • Must be at least 21 years of age or older.
  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • One or more years of college or equivalent professional experience in the field of Youth Development or a related field.
  • A minimum of one year experience working with children in lower elementary grades.
  • Must have strong leadership and diplomacy skills.
  • Must possess a valid driver’s license and have a good driving record.
  • Willingness to participate in the following program areas: outdoor activities, archery, songs/music, skits, sports, swimming, field trips off-site, and recreational games.
  • Exceptional group management, problem-solving and conflict resolution skills.
  • Ability to create, plan, and facilitate interactive and educational/artistic activities, youth development, physical activities, academic enrichment, and the arts.
  • Must possess speaking, listening and writing, skills appropriate for interacting with both children and adults.
  • Must be capable of implementing the daily program related responsibilities of the program.
  • Must have flexibility and the ability to adapt to changing circumstances.
  • Must have current certification in CPR and First Aid from American Red Cross, or other approved organization OR be able to obtain it before the program’s start date.
  • Child Abuse Prevention training required prior to the start of the program.
  • Ability to develop positive, authentic relationships with people from different backgrounds.
  • Must possess a commitment to inclusion and compliance with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA).
  • Demonstrate a working knowledge of YMCA mission, purpose and goals, childcare policies and YMCA standards; ensures the program meets the highest standards of excellence.
